Who is Cookie?

Cookie (Graham Sauney) is a proud Widi & Barada Barna Elder with his family having strong connections to both countries.

He was born in Mackay and grew up at Eton Range which is why he chose Eton Services for his business name representing and respecting the country that he spent his early years on.

Cookie is the fourth eldest member of the Sauney Family with nine siblings. The Sauney Family, under the leadership of their father, Maxwell, has a deep connection to the land throughout the Bowen Basin. Maxwell with a long history of cane farming and in the cattle industry, along with the family in mining and infrastructure while also caring for country through cultural & heritage and conservation.

Cookie was a keen rugby league football player for 20 years and still has a strong passion for watching the sport and through Eton Services provides support for senior and junior indigenous football teams.

His early working life included working on the local rail development, followed by a 25 year career with QLD Health in both Mackay and at Royal Brisbane Hospital which was a good fit for his caring and kind nature brightening up the day of the patients and co-workers.

After returning to Mackay in 2002, Cookie has been heavily involved in the cultural & heritage work conducted on Widi and Gangali Narra Widi land through his 100% indigenous owned and operated company Eton Services Pty Ltd. In addition to Cultural & Heritage coordination Eton Services has provided administration and facilitation support to both Widi Aboriginal Corporation and Gangali Narra Widi Aboriginal Corporation over the years.

Cookie is also a current committee member of the Glencore Hail Creek CHIMA and Wiri – Arrow CH Coordinating Committee.

Cookie’s passion in caring for country and the advancement of indigenous employment and financial wellbeing is the lifeblood of Eton Services Pty Ltd where as sole director and owner he has the ability to make a real and long lasting difference. His is well known throughout the mining industry and respected for his commonsense approach, extensive knowledge of culture & country and consideration of others.

Administration Reliability

Eton Services is supported by the team at Proactive Accounting Solutions who assist with ensuring all employee’s have the relevant inductions and medical clearances to attend site. They also administer the payroll and arrange any logistics necessary to get the job done. The relationship between Cookie and Proactive Accounting Solutions is one build on mutual respect and the common value of providing quality outcomes for all stakeholders.

Combined Capabilities

Eton Services values the relationships that it has built with other businesses in the mining industry which include Archaeologists, Environmental Consultants, and general earthwork contractors with drilling, Vac Truck, Water Truck, Grouting and small scope earthmoving capabilities. Through its extensive network Eton Services can precure and facilitate a wide range of equipment, products and services as required by its clients.

Future Direction

Cookie has a vision to grow Eton Services further and diversify through acquisition and hire of mining equipment on a contract basis and is building capabilities as required in this space. Rehabilitation of previously mined country along with offset area management are also a focus area for the company as these services are a perfect fit for Cookie’s passion for country and returning the land to its original state for the benefit and enjoyment of our generations and for those who walk these lands into the future.
